Routine maintenance can save you from drain blockages and drain leaks, including symptoms such as slow drainage, mold growth, water and sewage backups, and burst pipes! If you need a plumber in Blair County, then feel free to call Mr. Rooter Plumbing. We offer plumbing repair, plumbing replacements, drain cleaning, and much more.

Preventative Measures to Take

No one likes to deal with spilled milk. So, make sure the milk is capped and in a secure place. These are preventative measures that proactive individuals take. When it comes to your drains, we recommend you cap those drains with drain stoppers and drain filters. Consider a garbage disposal for your home kitchen and a grease trap for busy kitchens like a restaurant’s.

Don’t Abuse Your Drains

Your drains safely and effortlessly dispose of sewage and wastewater produced in your building. They are not superheroes though.

You should not flush anything and everything. Only flush toilet paper, pee, and poo, for example. Similarly, don’t over rely on your garbage disposal.

Toss food scraps in a compost bin, and keep used fats, oils, and greases in a separate container to throw in the trash later.

As for your bathroom drains, keep hair strands out by brushing your hair before getting in the shower. And opt for liquid soap over bar soap, as the fats in bar soap can clog the drains.

Common Maintenance Items

If you want to enjoy seamless drainage, the make sure the drains are clear of junk and muck. Get in the habit of rinsing drains with some hot water after using. This should liquify any fats and greases which may have hardened in the drain line.

Every two or three months, bring out the baking soda and pour half a cup in the drains. Follow that up with a cup of white vinegar and hear it fizz. This chemical reaction should break apart a lot of the gunk in the drains. Do this for the sinks and shower drains.

If you have the stomach for it, you can plunge or even drain snake your toilet and drains for extra clearance. Be careful not to damage the drains or pipes while trying though! If you prefer to leave the drain cleaning to the professionals, then call Mr. Rooter Plumbing of Blair County to schedule an appointment today.

Scheduling Routine Maintenance

There is a lot you can do to keep the drains clean and stink-free, but some of the work is technical and messy. Plus, there are experienced plumbers that have better equipment to get the job done quicker and more reliably. Call Mr. Rooter Plumbing to leave it to the professionals.
